There's been loads of bookmarking tools over the years that I've made use of, but I still use http://delicious.com/ the most. I like to make extensive use of the popular feature, though, because when I don't have a lot of time it makes browsing really easy - and no amount of tailoring will get around the fact that those popular posts are SUPER girly.

I appreciate the "pretty things" element, for sure, but as you can see on my tumblr feed - I have a bit different taste in what I like from images. I already have a pretty refined methodology for finding cool images, and I don't see pinterest fitting into that any time soon.

Do you use it often?

Thanks for Posting B!

col

Re: The Pinterest Explosion

I think Pinterest has the potential to reach more men. However, it would have to be not as a social media site but rather an easily accessible bookmarking tool. For any gender, it is an excellent idea to have a way to "pin" things that interest you in one place so you can then access or share easily, regardless of where you are. And if Pinterest wants to target a male audience, they should focus on this. As for using it as a browsing site, it can be overwhelming regardless of gender, but you can tailor who you follow, somewhat controlling the overall experience.

I will say, Pinterest is a place for pretty things - this is one of it's biggest appeals. You could look at pictures of sunsets, puppies, flowers, rustic chic reading nooks, and food porn all day if you wanted. And I think that is the goal - bulletin boards are best when both useful AND pleasing to the eye. In the end, if that doesn't do it for somebody, man or woman, then Pinterst isn't for them and that is okay.

Ps. In other news, Pinterest seems to help people curb spending... http://moneyland.time.com/2...
